The "Sea Lion" is an authentically restored wooden fishing boat built on the shore of San Francisco Bay in the 1930's. These tiny working boats known as "Monterey Clippers" were a common sight at Fisherman's Wharf during the early 1900's. They were used to catch all types of coastal seafood including salmon, mackerel, cod, sardines, shrimp, squid and crab. The colorful paint scheme originates from the Italian boat builders who emigrated from Mediterranean ports. Because of their efficient seaworthy "double-ended" design, Monterey Clippers were seen for many years in fishing ports from Baja to the Alaskan Panhandle.
Operating like a floating taco truck, the Sea Lion offers delicious dutch oven grilled food to visitors at the dock. --You don't need a boat to enjoy our fabulous fish tacos.
